The Receiving Line

To have one or not to have one, that is the question.

Many would consider skipping the receiving line a definite FAUX PAS! It is entirely up to you. But consider this; if you do include the receiving line, whether at the end of the ceremony or at the beginning of the cocktail party, you will allow yourselves more time to relax and have fun at the actual reception. You won't have to worry about being so thorough about making the rounds at each table at the reception. Besides, people generally know to move right along at the reception line. It's safe to estimate at least 20 seconds per guest. That be the case, if you had 100 guests, you could clock this in at about 1/2 hour, 45 minutes.

Here is the traditional order of the Receiving Line

(from left to right):

Mother of the Bride
Father of the Bride (optional - stand to right of spouse)

Mother of the Groom
Father of the Groom (optional - stand to right of spouse)

Bride & Groom
